The mechanical principle behind cold isostatic pressing is simple, yet highly effective for complex geometries. We seal raw technical ceramic powder inside a flexible elastomeric mold and submerge it in a pressure vessel filled with liquid. The fluid exerts uniform hydraulic pressure on the mold from all directions simultaneously.

Our industrial cold isostatic pressing systems operate between 15,000 and 60,000 psi to achieve a level of uniform compaction that uniaxial mechanical dies cannot replicate. This specialized forming capability provides several direct operational benefits:

Fine ceramic powders naturally trap air, pack unevenly, and create microstructural weak zones that crack in the kiln. Pressing technical ceramics from a single direction worsens these density variances, particularly on tall parts. Our CIP process eliminates these density gradients, ensuring uniform compaction regardless of part geometry.
